Nurmagomedov and Ferguson End Rivalry

Two of the UFCs most notable competitors have maintained a long rivalry, one that never met the light of day. This included Tony Ferguson and Khabib Nurmagomedov, who had their last chance to fight in April. That bout would be terminated amidst the novel coronavirus. One month has passed since this fight was cancelled by Dana White, allowing both Ferguson and Nurmagomedov to calm themselves on their hatred for each other. This permitted time Khabib to forgive his most notable rival next to Conor McGregor, upon which he sent Tony Ferguson a positive message of support. Tony had just lost to Justin Gaethje at UFC 249 when Khabib wrote this message.

MMA Analysts were shocked when Justin Gaethje dominated over Tony Ferguson at UFC 249, with the latter anticipated to be victorious. This allowed for Gaethje to become the Interim Lightweight Champion, with the newest top contender demanding a fight against Khabib Nurmagomedov when the novel coronavirus is over. It should be noted that Khabib and Tony would’ve fought on April 18th in Brooklyn. Dana White would ultimately be forced to cancel this venue by the parent company, Disney.

It’ll be a prolonged period before Justin Gaethje is provided with the chance to fight Khabib Nurmagomedov, with travel restrictions in his home nation of Russia not slated to ease until late summer. That means Justin will have to defend his title against other opponents, with champions inevitably forced into competition. It’s not yet known has Khabib Nurmagomedov has reacted to this callout from Justin Gaethje, with the Middle Eastern Russian previously mentioning that the new champion would be a weak opponent. Those sentiments might come to bite Khabib, just like they did towards Tony Ferguson.

Twitter Apologies & Congratulations

The sentiments remarked by Khabib Nurmagomedov to Tony Ferguson mentioned that everything between them is now in the past. Khabib wished the Ferguson Family safety throughout this pandemic, with his final statement indicating that Tony’s son will be proud of his father when older.
Tony Ferguson also congratulations Justin Gaethje on his victory, taking the loss like the former champion he was. Tony remarked that regardless if you win or lose, make sure to act like a champion. Supporters of the UFC will hope that Ferguson is given a chance to reobtain his belt one final time.
